Thanks for showing this to me Wolf!
And I’ve realized something. There is a difference between making a game ‘harder’ and making it ‘unbalanced’.
If you make a game harder, you make the gym leaders and trainers have more pokemon, ranged in types and higher levels. It requires you to grind more (which we all know is needed for any pokemon game) but the challange of them being so strong is fun.
But if you are making a hack and making trainers & gym leaders stronger, you need to make the WILD POKEMON STRONGER! If you don’t you have a flaw in the game that shows early. Trying to grind pokemon to say lvl 16 when the highest wild pokemon avalable is lvl 4 is past the point of ‘hard’. It’s a very unbalanced feeling. And if this is at the start of the game, how bad is it going to be later? Are you going to have gym leaders that you need your team to be near lvl 50 and you only have pokemon around lvl 20 to grind with?
A reason I’m enjoying Light Platinum so much is that yes, gyms are harder, yes I have to grind… a LOT. Considering my current team rotates between 13 pokemon that I try to keep all around the same level… thats a lot of grinding. But the wild pokemon are strong. Every route you go to there is a very notable jump in the lvl of wild pokemon. Some people might argue that it ‘takes away the hardness’ but NO. Even very hard games need to have a balance to their mechanics. You make a game hard by giving more challanges but still offering the means to reach that challange, even if it takes a little while.
Well seems I have another blog now for a different PMD-E team. This one, unlike Tao Tree, is just my own team and now a colab ask blog with friends. I’ve already had a lot of fun drawing these characters and I hope to continue with it. ^^
Alright, so it’s been a while more of grinding in Light Platinum. I’ve gotten four badges now and my team has grown. Some have evolved, some are new but all are stronger. XD I enjoy doing these updates once in a while.
So we are all at a diner and the waitress bugged this Guy to draw her a pikachu after she heard us talking about pokemon. This is turning out to be a fun night.
I admit I can’t remember the exact area I got the rom. (I downloaded it like a month ago then forgot about it till now) but it does have an official page.

Which not only gives info about the game but it does have download links to the english version (it was originally made in spanish). Of course you’ll need an emulator to play, personally I use Visual Boy Advance.
So a few days ago I started playing a fan made pokemon rom called Light Platinum. And MAN IS IT FUN! It has all five generations of pokemon, and seems to give a chance at getting one of each of the gen starters! While of course there are some glitches, as a whole it doesn’t have many bugs and it’s all quite enjoyable.
I’ve been trying to avoid most spoilers since it’s interesting playing a game that you don’t know whats coming. What I have seen so far is that there are two regions, two leagues and a total of 16 gyms. Each one stronger then the last. My current team is the same levels as the last gym I beat… which was the THIRD GYM. They just keep getting stronger. I’ve also seen that after the two leagues there is actually a world championship, so it seems that you have to keep grinding your team to keep up with the next challange. Doesn’t seem to be much space for having a super overlevled team.
I’m also quite happy that I’ve drawn some friends into playing this as well. I’d recomend to anyone to find this rom and play it. ^^ I’ll probably update a few times as I play and just see how far I get. Kai and I actually did livestreams last night with commentary as we played. Maybe that will happen again!
Hey if Karu is gonna post her Pokesona here I guess I shall too now that I’ve designed one. XD; It was between this and another pokemon… but this suits me more. The other pokemon I drew will probably be made into a character later.
Wanted to post it on my normal blog too cause I like how it came out! XD; Trying to get more use to cell shading is interesting.
